Individualised support

A calm, supportive approach tailored to each student

My approach

I am an experienced mathematics and physics teacher, examiner and tutor with a degree in Engineering from the University of Oxford (St Anne's College). I teach at a leading, academically selective, independent day and boarding school in south-east London.

Every student is different. My aim is to understand how each pupil thinks and learns, identify the areas where they need support, and then build their understanding and confidence step by step. I combine subject expertise with a calm, patient and encouraging approach. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and tackling challenging material without feeling overwhelmed. As an experienced mathematics and physics teacher, examiner and tutor, I have a clear understanding of both the demands of the curriculum and what is required to perform well in examinations.

I also have extensive experience supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and I adapt my teaching to the individual student wherever appropriate.

What parents and students say

I have been fortunate to work with students and families across a range of ages, abilities and academic goals. Here are some of their comments.

Parent of an A level Physics student

“A truly exceptional Physics and Maths tutor. Sarah is kind, insightful, dedicated, understanding, passionate about her subjects, a great communicator who provided regular progress updates and consistently went above and beyond of our expectations. I genuinely could not recommend her highly enough.”

A level Physics student

"The prospect of A level resits was daunting, however, as soon as I had my first session with Sarah, those doubts disappeared. She was a constant source of support and her teaching skills made even the most difficult topics more appealing and subsequently improved my result by two grades. She is the best teacher I have ever had, both pastorally and academically, I would highly recommend her."

Parent of a GCSE Maths student

"Sarah has been a wonderful tutor for my son, Jacob, as he prepared for his GCSE Maths exams.

From the very beginning, Sarah struck the perfect balance between being professional and approachable. Her calm, patient manner immediately put Jacob at ease, and she had a real gift for keeping him engaged and motivated throughout each lesson. As any parent of a teenager knows, that is no small achievement!

What stood out most was Sarah’s ability to build Jacob’s confidence. She quickly identified the areas where he was struggling and worked through them in a way that made concepts feel manageable rather than overwhelming. Jacob always felt supported and encouraged, never judged, and he often commented on how kind and patient she was.

Over time, I could see a real difference not only in his mathematical ability but also in how he felt about the subject. He went into his GCSE exams feeling far more confident and positive than he would have done otherwise, which is a testament to Sarah’s skill as a teacher and mentor.

We are incredibly grateful for the support Sarah has given Jacob. She is knowledgeable, dedicated, and genuinely cares about the young people she works with. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to any family looking for a maths tutor who combines expertise with warmth, encouragement, and an ability to bring out the best in her students."

Parent of GCSE and A level students

"Sarah worked with both of my sons during their A levels and GCSEs, respectively. She was an outstanding tutor, combining a deep understanding of the material and extensive experience with a caring and kind approach.

She delivered a complete step-change for both boys in terms of their understanding, confidence in the subject and performance. I particularly appreciated that her approach was differently - but perfectly - tailored to each of them in terms of their personalities and styles of learning.

I also really valued that she clearly felt there was no limit to what they could achieve, irrespective of their starting point - without making the ambition or challenge too daunting.

I would not hesitate in recommending Sarah to anyone. A huge thank you again Sarah for your help!"
